Introduction and Artistic Preferences
Have you used art to convey personal messages or emotions? Just like bats have become the  symbolic use in Sidney Dopilka’s work. “I draw and paint pretty much, only bats!” The mixed media artist creates on many different surfaces, “from your standard canvas to hubcaps that I find on the side of the road. I also love painting on wood!” In regards to her recent favorite medium, Dopilka said “I've been loving acrylic paints! I also love alcohol-based markers.”
Creative Process and Inspiration
Dopilka described her painting environment as “messy, 95% of the time.” With her room being her studio, the artist revealed “I’m not too tidy of a person. So when I’m creating art, I may have left over artworks and art supplies on my desk. I also always have something playing in the background, either music or youtube!”
Speaking about how her drawings reflect who she is, Dopilka said “Bats are the focus on my art, most people don't understand them. I guess I could say the same thing about myself, people looking from the outside don't understand what I am about.”
Creativity flows effortlessly for Sidney. When asked about her inspiration, she shared, "Rarely do I have a specific story in mind when I create art."
Artistic Impact and Future Plans
To Dopilka, being able to make people feel something through her artwork when they look at it brings her a sense of achievement. “The biggest compliment I have ever gotten is people saying they want to get my art tattooed on them!”
“I will continue to keep doing what I'm doing!” she said, referring to her future plans. Dopilka also has an excellent message to share with art-lovers and other aspiring artists like you: Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there and to explore different paths in your art journey!
